As I have not posted in a while. I thought I would kick back off with an easy but quite tasty libation.

The Shady Lady
Fill a glass with ice
Add:
1 oz. Tequila ( I say use Espolon)
1 oz. Melon Liqueur ( Midori works. I am still looking for a better one)
Fill rest of glass with Grapefruit Juice ( Fresh Squeezed)

The Park Avenue Pear
Served in a Chilled Rocks Glass Over two Ice Cubes
Fill Shaker with Ice
Add
2 oz. Citadelle Gin Reserve
1 oz. Aqua Perfecta Pear Liquor
1/2 oz. St. Germain
1/2 oz. St. Elizabeth’s All-Spice Dram
Shake
Strain
Garnish with Pear

Drink

Thought Something Seasonal

With Halloween right around the corner I thought I might layout something a little post Zombie attack.

Battered Bruised and Bleeding:
(this drink is a floater or layered cocktail)
(bottom) 3/4 oz. Grenadine (EO Brand is perfect)
(middle) 3/4 oz. Melon Liqueur
(top) 3/4 oz. Blue Curacao

Every Day Is Like Sunday

Sundays are a great day to feel ones own importance. Take a few moments and reflect on the finer things from the week that has past and gear up to be your own royalty for the week to come… With that in mind, this afternoon I give you the Duchess.

THE DUCHESS:
Fill a glass with ice
Add
1 oz. Pernod
3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth
3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
Shake Well
Strain into a chilled glass
Garnish with Cherries

The White Lady 2

As a follow-up to yesterdays recipe….there are some subtle changes with this adaption. And although less sweet, it is just as satisfying, this cocktail has the mildest Citrus kiss.

The White Lady 2:
Fill a glass with ice
In a shaker, combine
1 oz. Gin ( for a more pronounced drink go with Tub Gin)
1 oz. Triple Sec ( I always reach for Cointreau)
1 oz. Cream
Shake Well
Strain into your chilled glass
Enjoy!!

It is a little gray and rainy here in New Jersey today so lets brighten things up with a classic, The White Lady.

The White Lady:
1 1/2 oz. Gin ( I would use Dry Fly for its citrus flower notes)
1/4 oz. Cream
1 tsp Sugar or Confectioners Sugar
1/2 oz. Egg White
Shake vigorously
Strain into a chilled Martini Glass

Summer Is Winding Down

With summer winding down and fall approaching…it is time to add a little Savory back to our glass.

With that in mind:

THE AUGUST MOON

Fill a glass with ice
Add
1 oz Amaretto
1 oz Triple Sec ( I always prefer Cointreau)
1 oz Orange Juice ( Fresh Squeezed)
Shake
Strain into a chilled glass
Garnish with Orange and Cherry
Drink

Friday Night

The Negroni
(one of my personal favorites)

Fill a glass with ice
Add 1oz. Gin ( G-Vine for its florals)
Add 1oz. Campari (Aperol can be substituted for a sweeter style)
Add 1oz. Dry or Sweet Vermouth ( I prefer Sweet from Dolin)
Stir
Strain into chilled glass
Garnish with a lemon twist
Drink

Sorry to have been out of touch

As some of you may know, my wife and I recently had our 3rd child, so i do regret that I have been a bit bogged down and not really lucid enough to post but never fear. Parkergres is back, after having a great night sleep (sort of), it is time for a June specific Cocktail.

June:

2 oz. Gin ( Blue Coat/ or DH Krahn)

1 oz. L’Esprit du June (Grape Flower Liqueur)

1/2 oz. Lemon Juice ( Fresh Squeezed)

Shake. Serve over Ice. Garnish with twist lemon. I prefer a Collins glass, but a Martini glass adds a touch of class.

Bar Basics

As we all crest into adulthood there are a few things that are imperative: never show up empty-handed to a dinner party, and keep a well stocked bar.

So let us start with the Basics. Bottle number one should and has to be Vodka. This is, whether you like it or not, the essential cocktail backbone.

Vodka, a breif history:

The word vodka is the diminutive of the Slavic voda, meaning “water”. It is taken to translate as “little water”

Encyclopedia Britannica writes that Vodka originated in Russia in the 14th century. But the true origon cannot be traced. It is believed that the spirit was developed in the grain growing region of Eastern/North Eastern Europe, i.e Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Scandinavia and Ukraine.

It is composed solely of water and ethanol. Vodka is made by distilling the fermented juice of potatoes, wheat, barley, and/or rye. Lately there has been an artisonal movement to produce the spirit from oranges, grapes, apples, flowers and other sugary produce.

Some of the most popular/ well known brands include:

Absolut, Grey Goose, Ketel One, Smirnoff, Svedka, Skyy and Stoli

Now there is nothing wrong with any of these products, yet as a consumer i like to feel a more personal connection to the products I ingest. Therefore for me, the smaller more Mom/Pop style distilleries are where I spend my money.

Some GREAT small production Vodka to keep an eye out for:

Tuthill Town Heart or Spirit of the Hudson, Hangar 1, Crop, Tru,Core, Berkshire Mountain

My suggestion is keep an open mind when it comes to buying your beverages. And don’t fall for advertising.
